Malene Wines
“The name Malene (ma·lene \mə-ˈlēn\) is inspired by the semi-precious gem tourmaline, which can be found in many parts of the world, including California where the gemstone exhibits an exquisite watermelon-pink hue.” It’s this stunning watermelon pink that also inspired Malene Wines first venture into wine making; they debuted their Rosé in 2016 and haven’t looked back since.
The Malene brand is exclusively dedicated to crafting Rosé, so I think it’s safe to say they know a thing or two about the slogan “Rosé All Day”. Since debuting their Provence-style Rosé in 2016 they’ve gone on to craft several other versions of the bubbly pink drink: a Bandol-style Rosé of Mourvedre and an Old Vine Rosé of Grenache. The Grenache is made from 44-year old vines, and both wines were released to the public in 2018. All 3 Rosé’s taste distinctly different, and all 3 are delicious. There’s nothing like a cold glass of Rosé to remind you of summer, no matter where you live or what season it is.
In addition to being entirely devoted to Rosé, Malene is different from other wineries in that it doesn't have a typical brick and mortar store/tasting room. Instead, you can sample their wines by visiting the Malene Scene, a 1969 airstream trailer that’s been converted into their tasting room. It’s usually located next to the Chamisal Vineyards’ winery in San Luis Obispo during the summer, but the great thing about having a tasting room on wheels is that it’s mobile and can go just about anywhere! Don’t be surprised if you run into the Scene at the beach or music festivals where they’ll be serving up their delicious wines on tap.
The Scene already has several events scheduled for this summer: it will be at a Rosé pop-up in downtown Napa Valley 3 different weekends in the near future times (go here for more info!). Malene is also hosting an “Aloha Summer Soiree” on June 8th where guests can enjoy a traditional Hawaiian dinner and a glass of Malene while they hula and “flamingle”. And finally, you can’t have a french-inspired wine brand without celebrating Bastille Day, so be sure to check out the Malene Scene on July 14 where they’ll be sporting their red, white, and blue in honor of La FÊte Nationale! And as always, you can rent the Malene Scene for your own Rose-inspired event; all you have to do is email them at info@malenewines.com or give them a call at 805.235.3338. Malene says that “their wines are designed to capture the essence of life”, and although life varies in its unpredictability, you can always count on Malene to deliver a delicious glass of bubbly. Malene wines are the perfect way to compliment your plans, whether it be a day at the beach or an evening on the town.
